Our Story

The DMV frustration that turned into a side project.

Getting a DMV appointment should take five minutes. Instead I spent days refreshing a calendar that never seemed to have openings. So I wrote a small script to watch it for me. It worked. Then I figured other people probably had the same problem, and BookDMV grew from there.

It is not the DMV's fault

State DMVs handle tens of millions of transactions every year. Renewals, transfers, new licenses, driving tests, title work. The demand has grown steadily for decades while staffing and infrastructure have not always kept pace. COVID backlogs made things significantly worse, and many offices are still working through that overhang.

The people at your local DMV are doing their best under real constraints. The problem is structural: appointment systems were not designed for the volume they now absorb. Slots open and close constantly as people reschedule or cancel, but the only way to catch them is to be watching at the right moment. Most people are not.

What BookDMV does

I built it to monitor 13 states and 794+ offices around the clock. When an appointment slot opens that matches your criteria (office, service type, and time window), we notify you immediately by email or text. If you choose Auto-Book, we secure the slot for you automatically.

The service is independent. We are not affiliated with any DMV or government agency. We use the same public booking systems that anyone can access. We just watch them continuously so you do not have to.

Pricing and honesty

I charge a one-time fee per watch. No hidden anything. If Auto-Book cannot find you a slot, I issue store credit. I would rather do that than keep money for a service that did not deliver.

Appointment availability varies enormously by state, county, service type, and time of year. I publish real wait-time data so you can set realistic expectations before you pay. See current wait times by state.
